OK, I only came very CLOSE to seeing the John Birch society, once at a NOW benefit ( ? ) where Bob set his dick on fire, and another time, at angelina the polka queen's wedding reception, where there was some tension involving the JBS, a polka band, and their gear. I bet someone else can tell these stories even better than I, as I wasn't even there.

To elaborate on the story by Don Undeen, the JBS, performed as "F" at second half of Angelina, the Polka Queen's wedding reception on October 8, 1994. They were initially slated to play the close of the afternoon-long reception held at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. The event was hosted by Tom Miller and former WUFT Channel 5 weatherman, Lord Gregory Schafer and featured a diverse group of local Gainesville performers, including Ajamu Matima, B-Magic, Pol Parsley (The Thai Elvis), a belly dancer, some flute players, a flamenco dancer, and ended prematurely when rain set in during Bruce Klein's set. The festivities continued at the Westside Park Recreation Center where Benny Boom Boom and the Big Little Band were set to perform. F's singer lacked an amp for vocals and talked the polka trio into letting him use one of their amps... little did they know that it would be cranked up to 10 pushed to distrotion with screams. After suffering through several songs, BBB&TBLB cut into F's performance and the JBS clan packed up and eventually filed out of the remainder of the festivities.

I remember driving to Daytona for a John Birch show. Our car broke down on Payne's Prarie. A couple with Good Samaritan stickers on their van stopped to help. We eventually got to the show more or less on time. It was Bike Week and, of course, the roar was deafening. They were playing at some dump called Black-Eyed Susan's. After an eternity, they finally took the stage. The beery delinquents in attendance moshed with unbridled joy/rage to the strains of "Die you stupid Hippie." About four songs in, a melee ensued. Fists flew. Glass shattered. The staff eventually regained control and kicked everyone out. Ivan thought it was the coolest thing ever. Victor, who had to lug all his drums from Gainesville and wait around forever only to play a couple songs was PISSED.
