Here is a bit of falderal that has some irony. Back in the mid '60s, I was a student at the University of Florida majoring in architecture. My roommate and I were were one of the first "hippies" in town and listened to most of our music on radio station WGGG-AM. There were only two stations in town at the time, the other being WRUF-FM which played mostly elevator music and classical. Considering that there were not many so called "cool" people around in the college scene during the mid '60s, we used to hang out at the local teen place called "The Place" which was a converted bowling alley on University Avenue in Gainesville, Florida. Now this is where some of my facts get a little foggy but here goes. It was at "The Place" that I first heard the "Maundy Quintet". "The Place" was the venue where local bands would play and we all could rock and roll. Dancing was a big thing back then and Gainesville had some of the best looking high school girls going anywhere exceptin' maybe Valdosta, Georgia. Needless to say, that is why my roommate and I used to hang out there on the weekends. It was here that I first heard "The Maundy Quintet's" new song entitled "I'm Not Alone" which I thought was a great song. Somehow I got a hold of a 45 rpm record of this song and played it quite a bit. During that period, I had approached WGGG to get them to play the song on the air. After much persistence, they finally got the song on the air and it became a local hit. From that seed, which flourished in Gainesville, the Eagles were born and grew into a great band. I knew both Don Felder and Bernie Leadon when they were in high school. Also at "The Place" I also met the beautiful Cathy Butler also "The Classics Four" which are other interesting stories indeed. In the years that followed, Steve Stills passed through Gainesville and so did "Tom Petty and the Heartbrakers" (formerly known as "The Mudcrutch Band" where I became Ron Blairs rommate)and the "Almann Brothers". The Almann's went to high school at Daytona Seabreeze and had a band at the time called "The Almann Joys". I am posting this again as my spelling was off a bit on my first posting under Bernie Leadon but that's O.K. I was disqualified in my 7th grade spelling bee when I mispelled the word gingham. But anyway that was the worst 10 years of my life-the 7th grade! Yuk Yuk. I am now a practicing architect in Winter Park, Florida.

I just met and spoke with Bernie Leadon at length at a small public venue in San Diego at which time he expressed to me that he was very interested in reconnecting with his fans/admirers and asked If I could assist in that effort! Any ideas? Fan clubs out of the mainstream? Interested venues for "Life as an Eagle",discussion, lecture series? Inquire to above address. Please be Credentialed and sincere! P.S.B.
