I had the privilege of being present at 2 Aleka's Attic performances and also the opportunity to be a part of Gainesville's greatest time of musical prowess. With Aleka's Attic, NDolphin, and later the Space Masons in Gainesville, there was no better place for music on the earth.

Aleka's Attic was one of the most creative and innovative bands from the Gainesville area in the late 80's early 90's. I saw them play a handfull of times, and found their performances to be intense and focused. They really gelled as a group, and it was sad to see them fall apart as a result of Riv's death. They were a down-to-earth, good-natured group of individuals. Always seemed very humble on stage, even River. I saw that NDOLPHIN show with them in that field too, but the name of the place evades me. maybe we shared the same tea????

Yup, its me! Out here in the middle of the ocean. The place was Echo's place. All I know is that she lived there. It was an intense evening and a very beautiful time for music in Gainesville.
Thanks for your sweet words about us. There was no band without Riv - I think everyone knows (or should know) that. Anyway, y'all can check out what I'm doin now at: http://www.tiffanylee.com

I really admired Aleka's Attic involvement with animal liberation events and for the beautiful music they created! I had not had the opportunity of seeing any shows, but have heard some of their recorded tracks. They are all exceptionally talented musicians! Tiffany Lee is a very beautiful singer with outstanding talent! She and Josh are pure magic together! I wish them continual success! Peace, love & all things Vegan-- Joanne Rose www.joannerose.com

i've only heard bits and peices of Alecka's Attic music, but have a stash of their lyrics. i really find their music touching, and it inspires me and mooves me deeply. from what i've heard i love them as much as i love river (and man is that a lot!) i would love to hear more of their stuff, but of course thats very difficult. but as long as we keep singing their songs, they will be remembered.

Let me know if anyone knows if there are recordings of the music of Aleka's Attic available at this time (other than the two on PETA's albums, which I already have. I used to watch everytime that I could when they played in Gainesville many years ago but missed out on the purchase of any music at that time - thanks so much. MD

I remember seeing Aleka's Attic in late 1990 at the Hardback (I wish it was still around). I wasn't particularly impressed at the time, as I was still mired in the heavy metal blazing guitar syndrome. Now that I am older, I realize that they were actually a damned good outfit. I am fortunate enough to still own a copy of their 4 song EP (Gold Mine, Too Many Colors, Across the Way, Blue Period). That tape is a testament to the times when Gainesville was a hot spot of good music (hopefully it will be again), and had its own sound. Aleka's Attic was a good band, and it is clear that had River survived, he may have had a new career (with the help of the band, of course).

I wish i could share my opinions about the band and its music. I mean, im sure it must be pretty good (i give no flatterings without really really meaning it)cause i already read some lyrics... but its not the same. you can hear the music and pay little or no atention to the lyrics and still judge the music but not otherwise!!!! I have tried to go to the sites where... suposedly... you can hear some of the songs but apparently they dont exist. So, if anyone here knows about a site that is still in function... please tell!!! I downloaded some of what seem to be the band?s videos, but for some reason i can?t play them... does anyone know if they need an especific version of quicktime or anything else? Thanks.

I love Aleka's Attic and always will. Their music is so original and refreshing, it's not like anything around right now. Even though it's been so long without River Phoenix in the band, I still think they were and still are the greatest band!

And if you don't, would you know where I could find a live session of their music? I hope for good news. Sincerely, Dennis Claar

Yep its true River Phoenix was in a band called alekas attic and the name of the band and its meaning was truly inspiring as was there music. I strongly reccomend to any River fans that the aquire a copy of note to a friend... Even if you can't find the song post the request and I'll e-mail you the lyrics. They were/are all be it ten years later a terrific band though never the same without River their songs keep him alive in our hearts and that is his home now.

I love River Phoenix and Alekas Attic. I was only 6 when he died but I remember watching one of his movies (Stand By me) when I was younger and his face had stayed in my mind, the movie changed my life and made an impact on how I think. Im 16 now and a few weeks ago i watched that movie again, and now Im obsessed with Riv. Iv got a few Alekas Attic songs.couldnt find any in the record store so I downloaded them..I feel bad about it for some reason..I dont know why. But I love hearing Rivers talent and love through his music. Alekas Attic..their music is pure emotion. Even if the lyrics dont make complete sense, they do in a way that can not be spoken or thought. I hope I make sense..if it doesnt ..I apoligise :P

I saw Aleka's Attic way too many times at the Einstein-A-Go-Go in Jacksonville Beach, FL. They were a good, competent band. They were definitely not my cup (or toke) of tea considering that I was a Sonic Youth/Pussy Galore/Feedback head. But on reflection they had a good sound. I spoke to River a few times about music and he seemed like a real grounded guy. Sad end all around. Glad to know that the other players in the band have continued on a healthy path. Now whatever happened to Gloryhole, Rein Sanction and Beggar Weeds?!

Hey, Aleka's Attic was a really cool band back in the 90's, and these kids were really open to a lot of things. River was an example of a celebrity for he was not just famous, he did something to help animals. It was a great time back then, and I miss those "music" days when everything was so new and everybody just wanted to rock. Jo

Hey, I was 15 when River died and like Kristen, I was a River Phoenix fan and I was also a fan of Aleka's Attic. I never got a chance to see them play but I also downloaded some of the bands songs. Aleka's Attic was the first group that showed me that there was music out there with a meaning and a real purpose. Those of you who got a chance to see the band were really blessed. I love the song Across the way. God Bless Shanell
