Here is a bit of falderall that has some irony. Back in the mid '60s, I was a student at the University of Florida najoring in architecture. My roommate and I were were one of the first "hippies" in town and listenened to most of our music on a radio station WGGG-AM. There were only two stations in town at the time, the other being WRUF-FM which played mostly elevator music or classical.
Considering that there were not many so called "cool" people around in the college scene, we used to hang out at the local tean place called "The Place" which was a converted bowling alley on University Avenue in Gainesville, Florida. Now this is where some of my facts get a little foggy but here goes.
It was at "The Place" where I first heard the "Maundy Quintet". "The Place" was the venue where local bands would play and we all could dance. Dancing was a big thing back then and Gainesville had some of the best looking high school girls going. Needless to say, that is why my roommate and I used to hang out there on the weekends.
It was here that I first heard "The Maundy Quintets" new song entitled "I'm Not Alone" which I thought was a great song. Somehow I got a hold of a 45 rpm record of this song and played it quite a bit. During that period, I had approached WGGG to get them to play the song on the air. After much persistance, they finally got the song on the air and it became a local hit. From that seed which flourished in Gainesville, the Eagles were born and grew into a great band.
I knew both Don Feler and Bernie Leadon when they were in high school and at "The Place" I also met the beautiful Cathy Butler and also "The Classics Four" which are other interesting stories indeed.

This is for all the members of the Maundy Quintet and their friends! I run a Don Felder website ( www.feldermusic.com )and I added a Gainesville 60/70's page about the bands who ran togther during that time including the Maundy Quintet. There is also a link for bandmates who have lost touch to get a hold of one another. If your interested or know one of the bandmembers who is e-mail me (or have them e-mail me)and I'll send a password to get in. It's confidential and closed to the public.
Thanks,
Cathy
Barry is still to this day one of the amazing bass players you will ever hear. I see him in gigs frequently. He plays in a band for fun now and truly looks back fondly on his Maundy Quintet days. He and most of the band still keep in touch to this day. He is not only a great musician but is an amazing example of how to live life to everyone who knows him. Play on Barry!
