I have been in awe of Ane Diaz for several years....throughout her career with NDOLPHIN and SUMAC. Not really knowing her personally, but being friends of friends or friends of other band members....I would occassionally run into her....on the street....in a cafe....in a club. She was always mysterious, beautiful, kind, beautiful.... beautiful! Her voice was what lullabyes are made of.
one night, early, i walked into a gay club. NDOLPHIN and SUMAC had played there several times. I had always attended. The club was dark and almost completely empty. sitting at the bar, I looked over towards a corner of the room and noticed....there she was...Ane!...wearing a trenchcoat and smoking a cigarette. standing all alone.
I didn't want to stare...it was hard not to. i had had dreams about this girl...several of them! i was fascinated!
Suddenly, she walked over to the bar where I was sitting....put her cigarette out in the ashtray next to me....turned to me and said hello....oh, so cool...like some mystery goddess in a dream. then she left. i was stunned...couldn't say anything...it has been years since that night but I still remember it very clearly. she left town not long after that. i always wondered how she was doing. i heard from friends that she had moved to Athens, Georgia.
I also saw the last performance of NDOLPHIN. It was a very small crowd...mostly family, friends and major fans. Wonderful!
Another time, i saw her perform with Aleka's Attic (River Phoenix's band) for the Bill Clinton For President Rally at the University of Florida. She had shaved her head and was just awesome looking.
She IS awesome!
She doesn't have any idea that i exist but i will always be fascinated by her.

i, too, was a huge fan of NDolphin, Aleka's Attic, and The Tone Unknown way back in the early days of the Gainesville music scene. Some of my fondest music memories are of these three bands playing together in some combination ('specially the sit-ins between AA and nDophin). Incredible!
I remember the Bill Clinton benefit at UF were An? was playing with River Phoenix and Aleka's Attic. I was lucky and caught it on video. I definitely need to dig that out and post it to the web.
She and nDophin deserved to make it big - tho, alas, like many other great Gainesville bands...

I loved NDolphin!! Why did they break up? Today I listened to an old tape of them that a friend made for me while I was in Gainesville. NDolphin was my favorite local group. Does anyone know if Ane Diaz is playing for another band? She has such a beautiful voice. I truly believed that this band would have made it really big.

I left Gainesville roughly around the time NDolphin broke up, and wondered what happened to Ane Diaz. Just recently I discovered that she plays bass and sings for the band The Causey Way, which I believe is based out of Gainesville. There are a few albums available in stores and on the Internet, however few of the songs feature her on lead vocals. Hopefully as the band progresses, she will spend more time singing lead. See the attached link for info on the band.

Hey, let me concur with the above sentiments: Ane Diaz
was and is a talented musician and a strikingly attractive
woman. Many people seem to have the reaction to her that
the first person (another nameless coward) mentioned --
awe and fascination.
Ane' is in a new band now (post-Causey Way) called
Product, and they have a few tracks on a newish Gainesville
Bands comp called 'The Art of Macrame' put out by the
redoubtable Shermy D on his label Nook & Cranny. Info
about the comp is here:

Lots of great Gville bands are on it, and even some no-
longer-rocking OldSchool bands like Crustaceans and
Into Barbie.
Product kind of sounds like the Breeders and Cake Like
but with slide guitar & a little more noise. Check it out.
Anne should Be exotically rocking like Sheila Chandra and Natasha in a swirl.
Why she deflects 2 bad robopunk is beyond me!
Claim your true GoddessHood Woman and go solo.
Ane Diaz has released a new album with a band under the name Producto. You can find more info here: http://www.furlinedrecords.com/bands/producto/ Rain Phoenix is also in the band.
