Chelseaonfire have managed to crawl deep inside P.J. Harvey's vast dark side, emerging with a pound of broken hearts clenched in their snarling smiles. Frontwoman/guitarist Josey Packard vacillates between clawing down ex-lovers with vocals so heated they leave blisters and soothing the pain with Harvey-esque lullabies. This is no Dry rip-off, though. Packard's range is so deep she'll skin her vocal chords with gnashing vocals, twist them up into a quivering falsetto, and smoke them into a sultry purr. Bassist Amy Di Sciullo and drummer Rachael Fuhrer help drape Packard's frenetic vocals in a myriad of styles, showing they're aces at flowing musically from Riot Grrrl ballads to anthemic Punk-Pop to naked Emo aggression.
