PopCanon played here for an "acoustic battle of the bands." But because we are dicks, we played a pretty much full-on electric set. Even though we obviously broke the rules, we won. I don't remember what the prize was. A free magazine subscription or something. This was the show where we debuted our much-adored Fishbee Island comic books, drawn by Dan Lord from Pain.

Dave is misremembering something here, and that is this: YES, we are dicks, and therefore we won the Acoustic Battle of the Bands. But the prize was not a magazine subscription, it was in fact FREE STUDIO TIME at Mirror Image, which we used on 30 May 1999 to record the many of the 'live' basic tracks for our final album d'art. Hairy Monkhorst and Michael Rotolante worked the boards that day, and we all set up in a ridiculously convoluted way in order to actually track while looking at each other and playing all together. In the end, the album sounds great, but it's just goofy the way we went about it. Most bands, given 8 hours studio time, would record maybe ONE song and do it well, but I think we recorded huge chunks of maybe 7 or 8 songs, which is half the rekkid. Crazy. But Dave is right about this -- that Dan Lord comic book is a work of total fucking genius, and we've thoughtfully put it online right here: http://web.popcanon.com/ned/fbcomic/fbcover.htm
